Take our beautiful horses out for a trek through the scenic valley's of Gills Canyon with Moke Lake Horse Treks!
Discover the spectacular scenery of Gills Canyon track by horseback, along with beautiful Queenstown farmland.
On this trek we head along the farm road overlooking stunning views of the valley and canyon below, before descending into what was historically known as Old Gold Mining Country.
Soak up breathtaking scenery at every turn as we explore, from the farm flats and valleys to the mountains and rivers that flow down from the peaks. The route crosses Moke Creek multiple times, and at the end of the track we visit the picturesque Moke lake for an amazing photo opportunity. Very few get to experience the beauty of this very special area.
With a mix of terrain that includes river crossings, small climbs and flats on the farmland, there is something for everyone and all levels of experience!
Hi Andrew and Mia! Thank you so much for taking the time to write us a review, we really appreciate it. We are super glad you had an amazing time with us and we wish you a safe travel back home. See you again next time you are coming back to Queenstown :)
The scenery on this ride is outstanding. The guide was friendly and helpful, and my horse was calm and easy to ride.
Thanks Linley for your awesome review! We hope to see you again soon!
Highly recommend this tour! The scenery was unreal, up high in the hills and lots of river crossings. Our guide Flo was amazing, very friendly and knowledgeable. The horses are healthy and well looked after too
Hi Bianca and Rachelle, thank you so much for your lovely review. We are super glad you had a great time with us and notice how well looked after our horses are! Hopefully we'll see you next time you come down here :)
Quite a scary experience. The horse was jumpy and spooky and looked quite uncomfortable somehow. The instructor neglected multiple feedback and actions about hazards. I ended up fell off the horse the and one of backbone was fractured.
Hi Eva, thanks for your feedback. You rode a gentle quiet horse who was happily plotting along. Unfortunately he took a tumbled causing you to loose balance and fall off. He was not spooky or jumpy at all, we are sorry that you felt that way tho.
Very friendly and knowledgeable guides, great and well trained horses. Easy track and beautiful scenery. Highly recommend.
Hi Jasmin thanks so much for your lovely review and for being flexible time wise. Jojoe is missing you already :) We hope to see you again soon

Absolutely Amazing Experience
The Gill’s Canyon Horse Trek was such an amazing way to spend our last morning in Queenstown. The guides made us feel so comfortable and the horses were all well mannered and a joy to be around. It was our favorite activity that we have done thus far in New Zealand!
